Ngo-Martins Okonmah

Chief Legal Officer

Ngo-Martins Okonmah is a Partner and Head of Construction & Engineering at Aluko & Oyebode, advising multinational corporations, international contractors, energy companies, and investors on complex infrastructure and energy projects across Africa and other emerging markets. With over 18 years’ experience, I specialise in international arbitration and cross-border disputes, including ICC, LCIA, and UNCITRAL proceedings, as well as arbitrations seated in leading arbitration centres including London, often involving English law-governed contracts. I am regularly instructed on high-value matters involving delay, cost overruns, contractor defaults, and cross-border enforcement risk in major capital projects. I also advise clients on the front-end structuring, drafting, and negotiation of construction and engineering contracts, including EPC, EPCM, FIDIC-based, and bespoke project agreements. This includes helping clients align contractual risk allocation with commercial objectives, with the aim of reducing downstream disputes and protecting project value from the outset. I am frequently engaged at an early stage on distressed or high-risk projects, where intervention is critical to prevent escalation into formal arbitration or litigation. My practice combines contract strategy, disputes, and enforcement, enabling me to support clients across the full project lifecycle - from structuring and execution through to claims, arbitration, and recovery. I work closely with C-suite executives, sponsors, and contractors to resolve complex disputes and deliver commercially enforceable outcomes across jurisdictions. I am the Founder and Chair of Africa Construction Law, the platform behind the Africa Construction Law Conference, and I remain actively involved in advancing construction law and dispute resolution practice across the continent. I am ranked by Legal 500 (EMEA) as a Next Generation Partner and am trusted by clients to resolve high-stakes disputes in capital-intensive infrastructure and energy projects.
